Cincinnati – Hidden Gems of Northern Spain

Day 1: Travel to Spain

Fly from CVG to Bilbao, Spain.

Day 2: Bilbao

Arrive in Bilbao, a foodie haven in the heart of Spain’s beautiful Basque Country region. Get lost in the historic old town and marvel at contemporary art at the Guggenheim, one of the most innovative art museums in the world.

Day 3: Bilbao / San Sebastián

Visit San Sebastián, a posh seaside resort city and recent European Capital of Culture. Meander through the narrow, winding streets and discover some of Spain’s most gourmet tapas.

Day 4: Pueblos Tour

Drive through Cantabria and Asturias, a region commonly known as “Green Spain,” and make several stops in quaint villages off the beaten path. The perfect combination of nature, culture and gastronomy.

Day 5: Kayaking / Llanes

Kayak down the lovely Sella river tucked away in the Picos de Europa mountain range and take in the picturesque scenery of the Asturian countryside.

Day 6: Covadonga / Oviedo

Visit the majestic town of Covadonga as well as the impressive “lagos de Covadonga”, beautiful lakes tucked away at the very top of the mountains above the clouds. Continue on to Oviedo to explore Asturias’s capital while doing a scavenger hunt with students from a local school.

Day 7: León

Travel to León, a cultural paradise known for its art, architecture and exquisite cuisine. Visit the impressive 13th century Gothic cathedral and do a “tapa hop” for lunch.

Day 8:León / Begin Homestay

Visit the local market to purchase ingredients to cook a traditional Spanish meal in a hands-on cooking class. After lunch, depart for Madrid where you will begin your homestay with your familia española.

Days 9-14: Homestay in Madrid

Enjoy the authentic experience of living like a Spanish teenager as your family welcomes you into their home while showing you Madrid and the Spanish way of life.

Day 15: ¡Adios España!
