About Us

Our mission is to create a meaningful immersion experience that will change the way students see, think and feel about foreign language and culture. We believe the only way to truly LEARN the language and culture of another country is to LIVE it. That’s why we designed our programs to give students and teachers the opportunity to be truly immersed in the local culture and lifestyle of the country that they’re in. We hope that our host family programs will enable families to learn about another culture while sharing their own and create lifelong friendships across borders. Our goal for each student and family that travels or hosts is to awaken their curiosity about other countries and cultures, expand their understanding of the world and inspire them to become global citizens. Together, we journey on a life-changing experience and create friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

I gave myself the best high school graduation gift ever: a trip to Spain! For two weeks I was free to travel, communicate, learn and experience a different culture in ways I never could’ve imagined. And by staying with a host family that had kids my age, I had the chance to meet lots of new people and create lifelong friendships. A truly eye-opening and life-changing trip, this is when my passion for the beauty, history, language, culture and magic of Spain was born.

Four years later, I was teaching English in Madrid and living my dream. Through my students, I learned there was a lack of exchange programs offering the opportunity to become fully integrated in the culture—to truly live and learn with locals, and transform traveling abroad into an impactful, authentic experience.

This led to the creation of Live ‘n Learn, a company that would put creating friendships between Spanish and American kids the same age at the core of a more complete cultural immersion. We want students to view language not just as a school subject, but a skillset that gives them the freedom to travel, grow and build meaningful relationships for a lifetime.

I love spending time with Spaniards while they’re in the USA, showing them the glory of S’mores, celebrating the 4th of July and seeing how they react to their first taste of peanut butter or Cincinnati-style chili. I also love showing American students around Spain, opening their eyes to a whole new world, to enjoy gourmet three-course lunches that can sometimes last for two hours, to stumble upon an unexpected street performance or visit historical sites hundreds or even thousands of years old.

But the most rewarding part for me is running into students from years’ past and hearing how their lives have been completely changed by our immersive programs and the impact it still has on them today. Our hope is to change the way students see, think and feel about foreign language and culture, one Live ’n Learn experience at a time.

I went abroad to study English several times as a teenager, then during college I had the chance to go to the University of Alabama for 3 months and live in student housing with locals my age. I learned so much in just a few months and made some great friendships while learning alongside my roommates by just living daily life with them. Upon my return I still kept in touch with friends I had made and was motivated to continue improving my English skills and exploring the culture. And this was something missing from my teenage travels abroad: real connections with people my age!

When Robin and I started Live N Learn, I knew that the cornerstone of the program needed to be matching students together who are a similar age and have things in common. I want to give students the experience that I never got as a kid and hope they will find purpose in learning a language and have a reason to stick with it. Our philosophy is to not have classes, but for students to learn by living real-life experiences in a different country and alongside natives who are motivated by friendships and the possibility of learning about a new culture.

I love giving Spanish students the opportunity to make friends for life from a different country! It's so fun to see how close they get to their American family and as a result how much they learn. I also love having the opportunity to guide Americans around my country and making them eat new and challenging foods! Nothing makes me happier than seeing their faces when they try things like octopus, anchovies, blood sausage and Spain's pride and joy- jamón ibérico!
