Ursuline – Spanish Language & Culture Immersion Trip

Day 1:Fly to Porto, Portugal! 

Day 2: PORTO

Arrive in Porto and cruise down the Douro River, a perfect backdrop to this ancient city. Stroll through Porto’s narrow cobblestone streets while soaking up its renowned charm and history. 

Day 3: PONTEVEDRA

Head north to Galicia, the region commonly known as the “land of 1,000 rivers”. Stop in the port town of Pontevedra to discover the uniqueness of Galician culture and gastronomy. 

Day 4: “EL CAMINO” / SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

Experience firsthand the landscape of Spain on the Camino de Santiago, walking in the footsteps of millions of pilgrims and sharing in this 1000-year-old tradition.

Day 5: FINISTERRE / SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

Take a day trip to Finisterre, a town built on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, which up until the 15th century was believed to be the end of the world.  At night, take a tour guided by a “meiga” (Galician witch) to discover hidden places, legends of the city and ancient cemeteries.

Day 6: KAYAKING / PONFERRADA

Kayak down the lovely Sil River and take in the picturesque scenery of the Galician countryside. Enjoy the evening in Ponferrada, a town nestled in the mountains and protected by a castle from the 12th century.  

Day 7: LAS MÉDULAS / LEÓN

Visit Las Médulas, breathtaking Roman gold mines that have been deemed a World Heritage Site. Later, travel to León to visit the spectacular 13th century cathedral and eat dinner like a Spaniard by doing a tapa hop around the city. 

Day 8: LEÓN / BEGIN HOMESTAY

Visit the local market to purchase ingredients to cook a traditional Spanish meal in a hands-on cooking class. In the afternoon, depart for Madrid where you will begin your homestay with your familia española. 

Days 9-18: HOMESTAY IN MADRID

Enjoy the authentic experience of living like a Spanish teenager as your family welcomes you into their home while showing you Madrid and the Spanish way of life. 

Day 19: ¡Adios España! Fly back to the U.S.
