WHY FAMILIES LOVE HOSTING

A summer that gives back
more than it asks.

01

It’s completely free

Hosting costs nothing. You simply provide meals, a bed, and a welcoming home. International participants bring their own spending money and hosts get to attend events for free!

02

Short commitment

Choose the program that fits your summer: just 1 to 4 weeks in July, or a full 4-week exchange in August. A meaningful experience that fits your schedule.

03

Free family adventures

Join group outings to amusement parks, sports games, and local events, all included. Families often say these become their favorite summer memories.

04

Great for your kids

Your children can earn community service hours, strengthen their college applications, and learn valuable cultural and social skills along the way.

05

Friendships for life

Many families stay in touch for years, visiting their students abroad or welcoming them back. Hosting often opens the door to future travel and connection.

06

The world at your table

Discover new traditions, language, and perspectives right at your dinner table. Hosting turns everyday life into a cultural exchange.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS

Real families. Real stories.

Hear directly from host families, host siblings, and international students how opening your home turns into real connection, growth, and lasting relationships.

“

We are a very busy, on the go family with lots of sports and family traditions. I am so grateful for the experience that we shared as a family… And if you are considering hosting a student, I highly recommend it.

Couldn’t be more perfect. We have a lifelong friend and hope that he will return next summer… He even calls me mom #2!

HOW IT STARTS

Hosting starts with a conversation.

1

Your local coordinator

A coordinator from your own city guides you every step, from your first question to the day your student flies home.

2

A simple, informal chat

A quick, relaxed video call so your coordinator can get to know your family. No pressure, just a conversation.

3

Meet your student early

Once you are matched, you can start talking with your student before they arrive, so you meet a familiar face at the airport.

CONTINUE THE JOURNEY

Hosting creates the connection. Travel deepens it.

After welcoming a Spanish student into their home, some families choose to travel to Spain the following year: visiting their host student, experiencing daily life abroad, and seeing the culture firsthand.

Live N Learn offers a fully supervised 18-day Spain trip in 2027 for students ages 13 to 18, with a week of guided group travel, cultural immersion and a 10-night Spanish homestay.

GOOD QUESTIONS

What parents ask us.

Who can host?

Any family with a child from 12-18 years old is eligible to participate in the Live N Learn Host Family Program. Families may have any religious or ethnic background, but must commit to speaking exclusively English at home while they are hosting a student. Families should have a desire to share their interests and the American way of life with an international student and have an open mind to learning about their student’s customs and culture.

How will we be paired with a student?

Live N Learn matches families and students based on the age, gender and interests of the American host student and international student. We do our best to ensure that your family and the student you host share common interests and lifestyles. We personally interview all families and students and also have both parties fill out a questionnaire in order to make the best matches possible.

What should we do with our students?

Students come to the U.S. to live with a host family and learn what daily life is like for American families. Live N Learn expects families to include their student in their normal everyday activities. You are welcome to show them what’s special about your city or plan a few outings, but Live N Learn does not expect families to make extravagant plans or spend a lot of money to entertain their student.

How long can we host?

Host families can welcome an international student into their home for 1-4 weeks in the month of July. There is also a 4 week hosting program available during the month of August in some cities. Host families can welcome a student from France into their home for 1-8 weeks during the summer. We also have the opportunity for you to host for a full school year.

Is hosting expensive?

While there is no direct “fee” for hosting, an additional person in your home does, naturally, increase the cost of food, transportation, and activities you do as a family. However, international students come with their own spending money and are expected to pay for their own leisure activities.

Will the students speak English?

All international students have undergone an interview process and have done oral and written activities to verify that they possess a high enough level of English to participate in a homestay. At first, it may be difficult for students to get used to your accent or to feel confident and comfortable speaking, so just be patient, don’t speak too fast, and avoid using difficult idioms.
